DRIVEN by stories of resistance and romance, Mari Joy is a Chicago-based Filipino actress.

Her theatre credits include the portrayal of the Narrator in the one-person show Every Brilliant Thing with Vicariously Staged Productions. The solo performance drew high praise, with UTBA noting, "Asiado had the arduous task of being the engine behind an emotionally taxing solo performance for over an hour, and she did so incredibly well. Asiado more than lived up to the praise the script has received so much acclaim for.”

She also originated the role of Lark in MESTIZA, or MIXED, with Plan-B Theatre, Utah's first production featuring a Filipino-majority cast. Mari Joy is actively involved with CIRCA Pintig, a Filipino American theater group in Chicago, where she performed in readings for Sama Sama: Solidarity in the Fields and The Butterfly of Chula Vista.

In film, Mari Joy starred as Erica in Poolside Inn, premiering at the AMPAS-qualifying Palm Springs International Short Film Festival and shown at FilmQuest and the Golden Gate State Film Festival. Recently, she was cast as the lead in Kalamasa’s Revenge, an indie horror feature shot in Utah, which explores cultural identity through the supernatural. She also recently played a small role in an independent Chicago feature film called When Cats Fly.

She holds a BFA in Acting from BYU.
In her spare time, you will find her singing, being a hopeful romantic, and eating rice.

PROJECTS

stories on film and stage I’ve had the privilege to tell

“Asiado has impeccable comedic timing
and creates distinct relationships with each cast member, allowing for dynamic shifts between the characters through the course of the show.”

- FRONT ROW REVIEWERS

“Asiado enchants the audience with her radiant personality.

“ I felt immersed in the world of the play created with little more than one woman’s voice. It’s her world and we’re just living in it.”

- Rose Allen, Front Row
Reviewers

“Asiado more than lived up to the praise the script has received so much acclaim for and I look forward to seeing her grace more Utah stages. “

- Scott Savage, Utah Theatre Bloggers Association
